Kabul-city-modernization

Around Six million (est.) people live in a city that was designed for 2 million people.

Kabul city’s population increased to around six million people (est.) since 2001 but the city got many huge problems that can be solved by re-designing. The people also brought serious threats.

Total urban population in Afghanistan is 26.7 % and Kabul (Capital) population increased to around six million people since 2001. The people moved from villages, and outside of the country special from Islamic Republic of Iran and Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Kabul.

People moved from villages to Kabul city with purpose of having better life factors such as better education for their children, employment, and experiencing urban life. Migrants of Afghanistan in Islamic republic of Iran and Islamic republic of Pakistan, returned home to start living in their homelands.  Large number of return migrants settled in Kabul city.

People, who lived in villages for a long time, came to Kabul and people, who were in foreign countries, returned home and settled in Kabul city. The two group of the people increased population of Kabul city to around six million (est.) people. They settled in a city which was designed for 2 million people.

The process of settlement of the six million (est.) people was not based on Master plan of the city. People, themselves at all, bought lands and built house based on their own plans. What people did, the results were problems that people face nowadays. Peoples’ situations are better than living on the villages and living in the foreign countries—they faced insults and serious problems—at all, but they suffer the problems that could be solved by re-designing and settling based on Master plan.

The problems, that could be solved by re-designing and settlement based on Master Plan, are Public transport, housing and services of municipality. Public transport is non-standard and unorganized. There is no surprised for people, if they can’t see metro, standard auto buses and perfect streets.

Public transport was not only non-standard, but also is unorganized. People simply could join to the public transport by owing a car. Public transport was not under control of the authorities. Public transport didn’t only annoy the people, housing also hurts people. Constructions of houses were nonstandard and now people are not well in their houses. Housing was not based on plan and still many people do constructed houses.

Lack of services of municipality was another serious problem for the people. Streets were full of dirt. Municipality was organized for two million people and with the same personalities and supplies offer services to six million people. The problems were mentioned, could be solved by re-designing and settling based on Master plan of the city.

People also brought many problems such as poverty and unemployment. Large numbers of the people were poor and came in Kabul with the hope of becoming rich but poverty remained among of the people. The major of villagers and migrants were workers at the villages and host countries. Settling in the city didn’t make them educated and didn’t became unemployment due to weak economic of the city and few job opportunities for large number of workers.

The Kabul city, as capital, settled six million people amazingly but the people faced huge problems that could be solved by re-designing and settling based on Master plan of the city. Offering job opportunities could be perfect solution for struggling with poverty and unemployment of the residences.
