The National Directorate Security (NDS) of Afghanistan confirmed three top members of Al Qaeda leadership were killed in Afghanistan.
According to NDS statement, which was released on Thursday, International collation air force killed Faroq Gahtani, Belal Atabi and one other in Hekal village, Ghazi Abad district of Kuner province.
Kunar province is in east region of Afghanistan and has border with Pakistan. The border of Afghanistan—Pakistan is known for safe haven of Al Qaeda members and other insurgents in the Afghanistan.
The attack was carried out by U.S. drones with information that was provided by NDS, said the statement.
The Statement added, Faroq Gahtani was Al Qaeda leader in Afghanistan and Belal Atabi was his deputy of the group in Afghanistan.
Earlier, the Pentagon, the U.S. defense ministry, confirmed in a statement that US have targeted Faroq Gahtani and Belal Atabi in Kunar province, which borders with Pakistan.
The Pentagon described the attack as important attack on defeating the Al Qaeda group in Afghanistan.
